Epoxy Flooring Process
Experts at Designer-Crete follow a thorough process when laying epoxy floors.
Here is a breakdown of the process:
- The concrete surface is prepared by smoothing it using a hand grinder or scraper and any imperfections and cracks are filled in. The surface is vacuumed and cleaned to ensure there is no dust present.
- The entire floor is sprayed with water and cleaned using a power scrubber and degreaser. Corners are also scrubbed clean and a wet-dry vacuum is used to prepare the floor for treatment.
- A mixture of muriatic acid and water is prepared and sprinkled over a small area and scrubbed for around 10 minutes.
- The process is repeated over the entire floor, which is then rinsed three times to completely remove the acid. The floor is left to dry overnight.
- The solvent or water is mixed with epoxy and the epoxy solution is poured into another bucket to ensure liquids are thoroughly mixed.
- Duct tape is applied beneath the door and along the perimeter of the flooring. The borders are lined with epoxy using a brush. The remaining area is then painted with a roller brush.
- When the first coat is completely dry, a second coating is applied. The process is completed by applying anti-slip coatings if desired.
